I found there’re a lot of foreign words which we use are sometimes different meanings, for example “coach” is not the one which we use for. In soccer it’s used for “kantoku” and in baseball “kantoku” is “manager” in English.
There’re other words as long as I checked.
hochikisu – stapler
book cover – book jacket
seal – sticker
trump- cards
claim – complaint
mansion- apartment
stove – heater
rinse – conditioner
What else do you notice?

You often say to us that don’t think in Japanese.
This is probably because English sentences and Japanese sentences are made differently..
In addition, the “Katakana” we use often is not English.

I examined the ”Foreign words with different meanings” that you mentioned as example.
☆claim = to assert legitimacy or rights.
☆complaint = to say just complaints.
☆hochikisu = a Japanese-made English and the name of the person who invented this.
☆stapler = a device for fastening together sheets of paper with a staple.
☆book cover = the front cover of a book(本の表紙そのもの)
☆book jacket = the covering over the outside of the front cover to protect or decorate the surface of the book.(本の表紙を保護或いは装飾するためのカバー)
I will show you one of the other example of me.
☆pharmacy = where the pharmacist dispenses the medicine based on the prescription given at the hospital.
☆drugstore = where commercially available medicines are on sale.

We have lots of foreign words adopted into Japanese but sometimes we use our own way to short it cut. For example, nighter for night game, air con for air conditioner, rimocon for remote controller, depart for department store, and so on. They’re almost Japanese new words not English because they can’t make sense for English. Japanese is said to be flexible to the cultural differences, isn’t it?
